Our biggest and most exciting festival to date. How do you share the theatrical riches of a continent? With five visiting companies programmed this year from Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Argentina, we hope to offer the beginnings of an answer. From clown to musical comedy, from historical drama to political theatre, from dance to epic storytelling, we've never had such a range of theatrical genres at CASA before. The same is true of the stories being told. Imaginary cities collide with historical voyages, the conquest of the Americas with the violence of the Holocaust, the plight of journalists in Mexico with a Buenos Aires love story. It's very exciting to be sharing such diversity but, truth be told, not particularly surprising. Latin American theatre is as diverse as the continent and cultures from which it springs. You'd expect each show to be different and they are, beautifully so, each one so particular to their time and location and context. And yet, theatre is an art that rejoices in exploring the things we share as human beings, fundamentally. In doing so, borders dissolve, stories are shared and new histories written. And that's what this year's festival is about. Llega una muestra de lo mejor del ballet argentino al Solís 03.09.2012 | 18.42 El 6, 7 y 8 de setiembre se presentará en el Teatro Solís el Ballet Contemporáneo del Teatro San Martín de Buenos Aires, dirigido por Mauricio Wainrot. Esta vez la compañía nos entregará dos brillantes coreografías, "Chopin, número 1" y "Las 8 estaciones", con música de Vivaldi y Piazzola. El Ballet Contemporáneo del Teatro San Martín, que actualmente dirige Mauricio Wainrot, fue creado en 1977. Es decir que en 2007 la compañía celebró 30 años de actividad ininterrumpida como cuerpo estable. Para muchos, el Ballet Contemporáneo es en la actualidad la compañía de danza más destacada de Argentina. El Ballet Contemporáneo del Teatro San Martín ha realizado numerosas giras nacionales e internacionales presentándose entre otros países en la ex Unión Soviética, España, Canadá, Brasil, Uruguay y Estados Unidos. Sobre Mauricio Wainrot, director artístico del Ballet Contemporáneo del Teatro San Martín, fue coreógrafo permanente del Royal Ballet de Flanders, Bélgica; coreógrafo invitado, con carácter permanente, en el Hildesheim Stadttheater de Alemania; y director artístico de Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, Canadá, y del Grupo de Danza Contemporánea del Teatro San Martín. Estudió danza en el Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires con Vasil Tupin y Eda Aisemberg, y fue primer bailarín invitado del Royal Winnipeg Ballet de Canadá, del Ballet del Teatro Municipal de Río de Janeiro y del Ballet de Cámara de Caracas. Montó sus obras con las más importantes compañías de danza del mundo: English National Ballet, Ballet Royal de Wallonie, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Staatstheater Hannover, Ballet Argentino de Julio Bocca, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Juilliard Dance Ensemble, Bat Dor Dance Company, Ballet Nacional de México, Ballet Nacional Chileno y Ballet del Teatro Colón. Junto con el escenógrafo y artista plástico Carlos Gallardo, ha creado obras como La tempestad, Medea, Carmina Burana, Un tranvía llamado Deseo, El Mesías, La consagración de la primavera, Las 8 estaciones, Luz distante, Anna Frank, Looking Through Glass, 4 Janis for Joplin, Pájaro de fuego, Estaciones porteñas y Travesías. Recibió numerosos premios en la Argentina y el exterior: Choo-San Go Choreographic Award en Estados Unidos, APES de la asociación chilena de críticos, Konex de Platino al Mejor Coreógrafo de la década, Teatro del Mundo, Trinidad Guevara, ACE (Asociación de Críticos del Espectáculo), Teatro XXI, María Ruanova, Clarín y, en 2003, con Distant Light, fue finalista en el premio Benois de la Danse que se otorga en el Teatro Bolshoi de Moscú. En 2004 fue uno de los directores del film 18J, realizado en conmemoración del décimo aniversario del atentado a la AMIA. En 2007 fue jurado del Benois de la Danse y de la New York Internacional Dance Competition, y fue invitado como jurado del Prix de Laussane 2010.
