One goes as far as to describe it as a work of fiction. I have done Robert Greenberg's course: "Music of Richard Wagner", but it doesn't talk so much about the actual music as I would like. The list of Wagner biographies available to read is somewhat overwhelming. He must be the most discussed composer ever.
